3 Purpose/Rationale The ATT is responsible for promoting, encouraging exchange and communication of Archive and records management best practices between the members of WGISS. Appropriate guidelines and recommendations for long-term archive data management, preservation and exchange among Agencies will be developed and distributed.

4 As a result of membership survey and technology trends ATT initial focus will be on following categories.  technology, strategies –Long-Term Archive Strategies or Policies –Archive Media, Data Formats –Storage/Backup Strategies –New technology (storage virtualization)  Standard, Concept –ILM (Information Lifecycle Management) –ISO series –Environmental Storage Standards –Physical Security Standards  Case study, etc –Digital Data Preservation or Recovery –Agency Presentations on Data Migrations –Copyright Issues –Old Equipment Inventory –Analog/Film Data Preservation or Recovery

5 GEO task Contribution ATT nominated and reviewed following tasks DA-06-05 Develop a guidance document for a basic data (including format, precision, accuracy, etc),taking into account relevant national, regional and global initiatives. EC-06-06 will be merged into EC-07-P1 Conduct an inventory of archived data for ecosystem, identify data gaps, identify data data at risk, and evaluate cost of data rescue, conduct a workshop to define to define a data archiving strategy taking into account data types,processing levels and supporting media. DI-06-01 will be merged into DI-06-05 Encourage in-situ and space agencies to (i) systematically record data over coastal regioins to tsunami risk and (ii) archive data in a form easily accessible to all countries AR-07-P3 Advocate virtual constellation space observations following the “CEOS constellation concept” for better temporal, spatial, and spectral resolution and related data management and dissemination.

6 Archive Task Team (ATT)  Implementation Strategy –Stimulate discussion and dialog via occasional teleconference and email exchange –Realize that this is a collaborative effort and a sharing of experiences is need to succeed.  Approach / strategy: –Hold quarterly telecoms that able opportunity to share and exchange information.  Expected outcome/impact of the activity –Updated WGISS agencies format document. –Compendium of shared experiences in archiving.  Expected Duration of Task Team: –continues to serve at the will of WGISS  Listserv address: archive@wgiss.ceos.org  Project Web Site URL: http://wgiss.ceos.org/archive/
