Welcome to the Mark Twain Library!

Did you know? Our library has 15,657 books! This summer we purchased 3,166 new books! Mark Twain Students are fortunate to have a wonderful library!

The Library is open daily at 8:30 AM. The Library closes at 3:30 PM. From 3:00 till 3:30 is a good time to return a book you’ve finished and check out a new one.

Who is the librarian at Mark Twain? Mrs. Burgert is the librarian. She’s at school from 12:00 till 3:45 daily. She has classes with with Kindergarten, first , and second grade students. Mrs. Burgert LOVES books!

Next we will answer other questions you may have.

Where do we meet for classes? We always begin class on the rug in the middle of the library. Lots of nonfiction books are in the same area.

Where are the fiction books and picture books? They are to the right of the entrance to the library. They are in alphabetical order by the author’s last name.

How are nonfiction books arranged in the library? They are arranged in Dewey Decimal number order. Books with the same subjects are grouped together. The signs will help you find the books you want.

Where are the books about famous people? The biographies are located close to the entrance. They are arranged in alphabetical order by the subject’s last name.

Where are the graphic novels? Graphic novels or “comic books” are in the fiction section. A new section called “Countries of the World” is in the Easy fiction area.

What’s in the section called “Fast, fun, and fabulous?” These are short chapter books that aren’t too difficult and are fun to read! Fairy tales and folk tales are next to them.

Some popular fiction series are together in the Super Series Section.

Another new section is “Languages of Other Lands.” You can find books in languages other than English or Spanish. We have books in Arabic, Chinese, and several other languages! They are next to the large section of Spanish Fiction.

Sports books are in a special area. They are located to the right of the library door.

Shelf markers help keep our books in order. Please use one to mark the book’s place. Return it when you are done.

How many books may I check out? Kindergarten students check out one book. First and Second graders may have two. Third, 4th and 5th graders may have up to three at a time.

For how long can I keep books? Books are due the next time your class comes to the library or in two weeks. You may renew books once. If books are overdue, return them to get new ones.

What if I lose or ruin a book? If you lose or damage a book, you should pay the replacement cost of the book. If you find a lost book after paying for it, we will refund your money.

May I check out three books in the same series? Some series such as Wimpy Kid and graphic novels are VERY popular. Show respect for other students by ONLY checking out one at a time.

Where do I return books? You may leave them on the red cart by the entrance to the library. If you need another book, return them to the circulation desk.

Please show respect for the library, other students, teachers, and volunteers. Talk only in soft voices. Help keep the library clean. Help keep the books in order.

Twain students are caring. There are three classes held in the library at the same time. We must be considerate of Mr. Lowry’s and Ms. Clayton’s classes by keeping our voice level down.
