4 LIBRARY VISITS PASS REQUIREMENTS
During class – pass from teacher required Before school – no pass required During lunch – no pass required After school – no pass required

5 SIGN-IN Sign in each time you visit the library without a teacher: during class, before school, during school, and after school. Let us see your pass when you arrive. Have your pass signed by Mrs. Wilson or Mrs. Smith before you leave. Remember to sign out when you leave.

6 Destiny & Destiny Quest
The library uses Destiny for circulating books and for library searches. Click on the Destiny icon to search for books. Locate the book’s CALL NUMBER to find the book on the shelf. Please ask for assistance if you can’t find your book. You may use Destiny Quest to create your personal library account. See the library web page for instructions.

7 BOOK CHECK-OUT Bring your books to the
circulation desk to check them out. You may check out two books at a time for a period of ten school days. They can be renewed one time. If you have a fine or overdue book, you cannot check out additional books until you clear your records. (Overdue fines are five cents per school day.) You must have your school ID to check out books.

8 PRINTING Students may print to the library printer if it is school-related. Be careful to print only what is necessary. Do not click PRINT until you have made sure you have selected only the page or image you need. If you need help printing, please ask.

9 TexQuest RESOURCES The password for these resources is kcisd.
This online service offers the following products to help with your research in the library, in the classroom, and at home: Britannica Encyclopedia & Ebooks Adam Matthew Primary Sources Ebsco Ebooks GALE Databases Book & Author Resources You may access the TexQuest & GALE resources through the KHS Library web page. The password for these resources is kcisd.

12 Library Organization - FICTION
Fiction – stories that are not true; fantasy; novels The fiction books are located on the left side of our library. They are organized in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. The spine label will start with F and then be followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name. For example, a fiction book by Gary Paulsen would have this spine label: F PAU

13 Library Organization - Nonfiction
Nonfiction – books that are true, full of facts Nonfiction books are on the right half of our library. Nonfiction books are arranged by Dewey Decimal numbers based on the book’s subject matter. The numbers are followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name or the first three letters of the title.

14 Library Organization - Reference
Reference books are informational books like encyclopedias, almanacs, and atlases. Reference books have an R, topic number, and the first three letters of the author’s last name or book title. Reference books are located on the right of the long middle shelf (other side of the biography shelf).

15 Library Organization – Story Collection
The Story Collection section has books of short stories or novel collections. The spine label begins with SC and the first three letters of author’s last name or book title. A book of short stories by Stephen King: SC Kin Story Collection books are located on the back wall to the right of the Fiction section.

16 Library Organization - Biography
A biography is a story about someone’s life. The spine label for a biography starts with 92 and is followed by the first three letters of the person’s last name. For example, a book about Thomas Jefferson would be: 92 Jef Biographies are located on the left side of the middle shelf of the library.

17 LIBRARY EXPECTATIONS Respect your classmates.
Use the library for research and reading. 3. Keep talking to a minimum. 4. No more than four people should sit at one table. 5. There should be only one student per computer. 6. Remain seated in library except for researching and browsing. 7. Clean up your area before you leave. 8. Do not bring food, candy, or gum into the library.
