Presentation transcript:

Energy: Force and Motion

Charge- particles of which matter is made that attract or repel atoms.

Attract- to draw in by a physical force.

Magnet- produces a magnetic field which attracts metals such as iron, cobalt, and nickel.

Magnetism- the property, quality, or condition of being magnetic.

Repel- to drive or force back; hold off.

North and South Pole- invisible field with opposite effects or opposite electrical charges.

Electricity- the effect of the force field of charged electrons that releases energy.

Energy- capacity to move an object (mass) by the application of force Energy- capacity to move an object (mass) by the application of force. Can be electrical, mechanical, chemical, thermal, or nuclear, and can be transformed from one form to another.

Conduct- material that electricity flows easily through.

Conductivity- ability to transmit heat, sound or electricity through matter.

Medium- conductor that allows different ranges of electric voltage to pass through from one location to another.

Electrical Circuit- unbroken path which electricity travels through.

Light- form of radiant energy that travels in a straight path.

Refract-  to alter the path of light through clear, opaque, or solid matter.

Heat- form of energy that causes a difference in temperature.

Thermal Energy- a form of energy that is created by heat.
