6 What is Static Electricity ?
The build up of charge on an object These charges do not flow Rubbing certain materials together is a build up of static electricity. Lightning is static electricity.

7 Benjamin Franklin Discovered lightning was an electric current and built the first lightning rod.

8 Electric Current Current: flow of electrons through a material

9 Circuits A pathway taken by an electric current.
Closed circuits: allow the movement of electrical energy Open circuits: stop the movement of electrical energy.

10 Circuits Series Circuit: only one path for current to flow through
Parallel Circuit: more than one path for current to flow through

11 How does electricity move?
Conductors: allow electricity to move through them (metals) Insulators: do not allow electricity to move through them (rubber, plastic, wood)

12 Electromagnet Current flowing through a wired that’s been wrapped around an iron-bearing metal. This is a temporary magnet.
