William S. Hart Union High School District Library Plan Committee Report for 2016-2017

Creation of a Committee The Library Committee represents various stakeholders from across the district and community: Assistant Superintendent Director of Curriculum Board Member Supervisor of Technology Principals Teachers Students Parents Teacher Librarians Public Librarian

Committee Goals The object of the district library plan is to: Describe the current status of our libraries Ensure libraries correlate their efforts with the district’s mission Identify areas in need of improvement Create a five year plan Provide rationale for the allocation of funds

Committee Findings William S. Hart libraries do essential work: Provide access to a plethora of resources and technologies Promote literacy and the habit of reading Help students navigate the digital world and become responsible 21st century learners Teach students to think critically and independently Encourage lifelong learning Collaborate with fellow educators to provide meaningful learning opportunities

Library Action Plans William S. Hart district libraries will strive to: Improve the currency of our collections by updating print sources Create learning commons with 24/7 remote access Develop and teach digital citizenship curriculum for all students Call for the reinstatement of full time media technicians at each district library
