1 Vision Library Media Center serves as an integral part of the school ’ s educational program and is the information hub of the school. All students will acquire 21st century skills(multi-literacy skills) to become prepared to learn, work, and live in a digital, knowledge- based global society.

2 Mission The mission of the Library Media Center is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas, information and technologies.

3 Goals Provide an inviting environment that supports the curriculum and facilitates learning. Provide an organized, up-to-date collection, and technologies that support the curriculum. Provide opportunities for collaboration with teachers to integrate information literacy skills and technologies into the curriculum. Promote reading enjoyment and develop independent media users by providing intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats.

4 Objectives (Short Term Goals) Attend department meetings and share with teachers about research project ideas and evolving technologies. Work with teachers in the implementation and assessment of research-based units that will require students to use multimedia resources. Promote student awareness about copyright basics and responsible use of ideas and information. Increase library book circulation. Provide hands-on technology training sessions to students, faculty and parents.

5 Teacher-Librarian Collaboration Considerations the librarian makes before collaboration with a teacher What is the common ground the teacher and the librarian share? Librarian considers what the teacher needs. Librarian is adaptable to teacher's needs. Librarian helps without dominating the process. Librarian finds out what the teacher means when he/she says "research."

6 Collaborations During Collaboration What is the topic and what kinds of projects can be done? How can higher order thinking skills be incorporated? What do we want the students to know and do? What Standards and Information Literacy Skills are addressed? What resources does the library have? What technology skills should be incorporated? What are the various levels of ability and learning styles which must be accommodated? How long do students have to do the assignment and how many days do the students need in the library? Responsibilities (Who will teach what) and evaluation.

8 Resources Acquisition Must be aligned with Illinois State Learning Standards. Must support school curriculum. Must support the educational needs of the administration, educators and students. Must follow CPS Collection Development Policy.

9 Criteria for Selection Reviews from professional sources and and collection development/selection tools. Survey the needs and interests of students and teachers. Relevance to the curriculum. Adequacy of current holdings. Relevance to professional growth. Technology tools and resources necessary to complete certain research projects. Copyright date/Copyright compliance.
