The need Project Policy Area The Need Actions assessing the costs and benefits of risk prevention measures. The floods incidents in the EU member states have demonstrated that the cost of flood damage can be enormous, and might even increase in the future due to climate change. Decision makers, such as Local Administration Authorities, can base their decisions regarding the planning and implementation of flood prevention measures on Cost-Benefit analysis studies. Within the framework of the 2007/60 Floods Directive it is asked that Flood Risk Management Plans shall take into account relevant aspects such as costs and benefits, especially for trans-boundary river basins. Objective The Project intends to FLOOD-CBA project aims at establishing a sustainable Knowledge Platform for the use of stakeholders dealing with the cost-benefit analysis of flood prevention measures in the context of different socio-economic environments within the EU. The Project intends to Facilitate the collection, assessment and the exchange of information amongst stakeholders and provide overview and detail on current models and best practices; Consolidate the methodology and data sources and enhance the comparability of results of Cost-Benefit Analysis; Strengthen the performance of the existing prevention mechanism especially in the project participating countries; Promote the transnational cooperation of competent bodies all over Europe. 4/12
