What Is Wellness? Wellness is a state of optimal well-being in which all components of health are in balance. 6 Components of Wellness Physical Emotional Social Mental Spiritual Environmental

Physical Health Physical health refers to how your body functions and involves: The ability to carry out daily tasks Getting regular exercise Being at your recommended body fat & weight Maintain adequate nutrition Avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and drugs

Emotional Health Emotional health is expressing your emotions in a positive, nondestructive way. It’s the ability to control stress and cope with unpleasant emotions.

Social Health Social health means having the ability to interact successfully with people and one's personal environment. It is the quality of relationships you have with your friends, family, teachers and others you are in contact with.

Mental Health Mental health is the ability to recognize reality and cope with the demands of daily life. It means having a high self-esteem and feeling comfortable and happy about yourself. Free of mental illness.

Spiritual Health Spiritual health is maintaining harmonious relationships with other living things and having spiritual direction and purpose. Can include people’s religious practices Also includes living according to one’s ethics, morals, and values. Living in peace with yourself and those around you.

Environmental Health Environmental health is keeping your air and water clean, your food safe, and the land around you enjoyable and safe. It includes promoting health measures that improve quality of life in the community, such as planting trees or starting a recycling program.
