Making room drawings Scale drawing Inches=feet Commonly used scale is ¼ inch=1foot (easiest to make scale drawings if you use graph paper with ¼ inch squares) EX. if you have a wall that is 10ft long then you would use 10 squares on a 1/4inch scale graph paper to draw this wall. Swing for door: indicated the direction in which a door opens, so you can allow enough space for the swing of the door. 11/23/2018

Principles of furniture arrangement Keep room purpose in mind- who will be using the room and what are the needs of the room. Examine architectural & mechanical features of room- doors & window need room to open, electrical outlets need to be accessible with lamps close Provide space for traffic—known as traffic patterns Most direct route people use to get through a room or from one part of the home to another. Furniture should not block these pathways. People should be able to move from one place to another without bothering others. 11/23/2018
