Resume Resume – A formal document designed to provide a detailed summary of an applicant’s work experience, education and skills. Chronological – Reverse Order list of work experience Functional – Highlight Skills & Abilities

Resume – A good Resume Represents you well Remember to be: Truthful - State your skills and abilities accurately Brief - Limit your resume to one page Error-free- Proofread your resume and ask at least one other person to review it Professional - Print your resume on high-quality paper using a quality printer – linen White or Off White Readable - Use an easy to read font, minimal boldface, avoid italics and underlining, and leave white space A good match - Use keywords that match words from the job posting or description

Interview Tips Bring a copy of your Resume. Be Passionate – Every employer believes that his or her company is unique and therefore wants to hire the best person for the job. Be enthusiastic about the position and the company. Be Prepared – Be able to identify keys skills that are required to fill the open position. Research the company. Be Honest – Don’t try to sugar coat things. End Strongly – sincerely express your interest in the position and ask what the next step will be. Ask for the Interviewer’s business card.

Career = Job + Occupation Career Vocabulary Task - (Synonyms – duty, chore, detail) A piece of work assigned to be done. Job A group of tasks you agree to perform for an employer. Occupation A group of jobs involving similar tasks. Career The work you will do over a period of years. Career = Job + Occupation

Career Vocabulary Self-Concept: The way in which a person views his/her own self-worth and personal abilities. *This will not stay the same – it will change daily.

Career Vocabulary Dignity Self-Esteem The confidence that one has in his/her abilities Dignity The state or quality of being worthy of honor or respect – “A man of dignity and principle.” A composed or serious manner or style A sense of pride in oneself
