Proclamation of 1763 Explanation Result Reaction Britain did not want to pay to fight Native Americans in West, so they made a law saying colonists could not settle West of the Appalachian Mountains Colonists angered at British military presence and control over not being able to go West to land they fought for

Sugar Act Explanation Result Reaction British first imposed tax on sugar and molasses Mild protest by colonists; not a big issue for most since sugar was a luxury

Stamp Act Explanation Result Reaction Colonists required to pay tax and get all paper stamped, including legal documents and certificates, newspapers and even playing cards Stamp Act Congress is formed to organize paper boycotts; Britain would eventually repel (cancel) the tax
