What does this word mean? Can you give me some examples? Harassment

Harassment is when someone behaves in a way which makes you feel distressed, humiliated or threatened. It could be someone you know, like a neighbour or people from you local area or it could be a stranger – for example, someone on the bus. Examples of harassment include: unwanted phone calls, letters, emails or visits. unwanted touching stalking verbal abuse and threats smashing windows or using dogs to frighten you Harassment is both a criminal offence and a civil action under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. www.citizensadvice.org.uk The teacher in the initial trail of the materials asked if ‘unwanted touching’ could be added in to the C.A. definition. It led to discussion amongst the boys e.g. was that not assault?

Sexual Harassment What does this phrase mean? Can you give me some examples?

Sexual harassment is unwanted behaviour which you find offensive or which makes you feel intimidated or humiliated and the behaviour is of a sexual nature. You don’t need to have previously objected to something for it to be unwanted. Sexual harassment can include: sexual comments or jokes physical behaviour, including unwelcome sexual advances, touching and various forms of sexual assault displaying pictures, photos or drawings of a sexual nature sending emails with a sexual content. Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination under the Equality Act 2010 www.citizensadvice.org.uk Sexual harassment isn't always about fancying someone but is about power (and so it's not only 'attractive' people women who are subject to harassment) There was debate in the initial trail about whose responsibility it is if e.g. someone sends you photos “Just block them / delete them”

Women in public spaces Look at the statistics on the handout (from Everyday Sexism ‘ project) Read them through with another person. Are there any that surprise / shock you? Why do you think it is like this? How many of these cases were reported to the police? A survey of 600 women commuters in France in April 2015 found that 100% had been sexually harassed on public transport at some point in their lives http://www.citylab.com/commute/2015/04/the-sad-ubiquity-of-sexual-harassment-on-public-transit/390804/

Wolf-whistling Read the article about the woman who reported a builder for wolf-whistling i) underline her point of view and how she feels ii) underline his point of view and how he feels Whose side are you on and why?
