Michelangelo He was a skilled painter, poet, architect, and a sculptor. He called sculpting “the first of the arts.”

Michelangelo At age 23, he made the statue called la Pieta. It shows Mary holding the body of Jesus after the Crucifixion

Michelangelo’s David David is considered the “Perfect Male” of all time.

Michelangelo In 1508, Pope Julius II called him to the Vatican. He asked Michelangelo to decorate the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel with frescos. Fresco: Watercolor paintings on fresh plaster. It took him 4 years to complete his work.

Leonardo’s: Notebooks To learn more about the human body he dissected corpses and made careful drawings of the structure of muscles and bones. He examined natural objects—birds wing, veins in a leaf, a horse’s leg. He tried to find general rules that would apply to the information he gained from his observations.
