2017 Young Professionals Business Plan: Overarching trend 3.6% decrease in Young Professional membership (Sep. 2017 vs. Sep. 2016) Young Professional volunteer and member engagement/satisfaction are declining IEEE Young Professional members want To stay technically competent and up-to-date To be more involved in the IEEE community, but in a way that suits their lifestyle Be better represented at conferences, activities and events To have customized products and services with superior user experience November 2016 IEEE Board Series MGA approved funding for 3-years development of the YP Business Plan IEEE Board approved funding for the YP Business Plan development in 2017, with possible extension In June 2017, MGA Board Approved $90k for 2018 for further development of the YP Business Plan

2017 IEEE Young Professionals Projects: Access to technical content via IEEE Xplore Leverage an existing IEEE service to provide IEEE Young Professional members with the technical content they desire as a membership benefit (not for opt-ins or grad students) μVolunteering platform Introduce a platform that allows IEEE Young Professional members to create and find flexible micro-volunteering opportunities Volunteer loyalty and recognition program Recognize local volunteer efforts on a higher level, track their achievements (modernize reporting), apply gamification theory to increase participation and engage more members Presence at high-profile events Support presence at high-profile events to expand global IEEE Young Professionals community, attract industry practitioners, and showcase IEEE membership benefits Seed funding for local events Increase volunteer engagement/satisfaction by providing support for local volunteers to deliver engaging event experiences for IEEE Student and Young Professional members

Projects Status as of Feb 2018: IEEE Xplore Continuing research into implications and needed approvals from stakeholders to run pilot of special MDL/Xplore packages uVolunteering Potential platform identified with sandbox testing launched in the middle of October Vendor negotiation and full scale pilot to occur in Q2/3 of 2018 Loyalty program Research, framework creation and negotiations with consulting companies has been completed Discover phase of consulting agreement with workshop and stakeholder interviews in scheduling Signature & Meet Up Events 7 Signature and 21 Meet-ups are organized in 2017, surpassing success metric of 5 and 15, respectively. Survey and feeback looks positive. Seed funding Program was launched in February and supported over 32 events organized by YP Affinity Groups worldwide

What can you do as Section leaders?: Initiate a Young Professionals Affinity Group (AG) in your section. Encourage the AG to elect officers and conduct events (Global YP Team has funding for events) – STEP and Seed. Collaborate with schools in your section and introduce YP program to graduating senior students. (Help retain IEEE membership). Conduct events with networking and professional development opportunities for YP’s. Provide opportunities to young people in your section to take on IEEE leadership roles in your section!

2019 IEEE Rising Stars Conference A premier student and young professionals conference from IEEE Region 6 January 4-6, 2019 at Las Vegas 2019 will be the 5th IEEE Rising Stars Conference, first one happened in 2015. Venue is Las Vegas. Conference has grown significantly over the past several years, with 278 attendees in 2018 Rising Stars. The 3 day event aims at student and young professionals technical and professional development and competitions. Increase in number of Young Professionals YoY. 40% attendees at 2018 RS were YP’s. Partnership and collaboration with several IEEE OU’s and industry.
