Forming an Affinity Group l What is an “Affinity Group?” l “An affinity group shall be a local unit of an IEEE entity or standing committee established by petition to the parent entity to fulfill the purposes of the IEEE.” l The entity gets a $180 rebate for each affinity group that holds 2 or more meetings per year.

What are the requirements? l Submit a petition, which includes: l Name of the Section or Sections. l Name of the sponsoring entity (e.g.: GOLD). l Name of the organizer (who becomes interim Chair pending election of a regular Chair at a later organization meeting). l Signatures of at least six (6) IEEE Members (member grade or higher; i.e. non-Student members), who are Members of the Section(s), involved.

Objectives - GOLD Projects in 2005  Reenergize activities in IEEE GOLD Affinity Groups.  Networking IEEE GOLD members in Region 10.  Search for new IEEE GOLD leaders and encourage them to participate.  Start up new IEEE GOLD Affinity Groups in most of the Sections in Region 10.  Provide infrastructures for sharing information and experiences.  Provide soft-skills educational activities for GOLD member  Spread IEEE GOLD information to all IEEE Sections.

Aim of the GOLD Educational Activities l By offering educational opportunities to young IEEE members, IEEE/GOLD can attract attention and regain more young members because of offering a necessary means for more success in the job l As GOLD is not able to create educational offers only out of itself it is looking at other IEEE entities which already offer educational opportunities to their members

25. Introduction l Almost 80% of the membership is lost when they become from students to members. l SAC and GOLD work in their own projects and programs and never with any synergy between committees. l SAC and GOLD the future of IEEE and Societies.

26. Creation of Transition l Creation of the Ad Hoc Committee “Transition”, l Objective: Create a bridge between GOLD and SAC in order to increase the participation of both Committees and reduce the lost of membership.
