Lens  The lens is the most important part of the camera  Lens captures light and focuses the light on the part of the camera that receives the image.
The f/stop number, usually found on the barrel of a lens, indicates the size of the aperture relative to the focal length of the lens. The f/stop number.

Aperture & Depth of Field Digital Photography Apollo Technology Education

Aperture: Controls the amount of light entering the camera through the lens. Every lens has an aperture. Review light, lens, and zoom concepts – the aperture is part of the lens. ”F-stops” the numbers associated with each size is an inverse relationship, which can be confusing.

demonstrate shining light through an actual lens.

Depth of Field: (DOF) the portion of a photograph that appears acceptably sharp or in focus. Two Major Variables: Aperture Focal Length

Example: deep or broad Depth of Field Also known as deep focus Landscape, architectural, large group portrait photography usually have a large depth of field. Small aperture opening This picture was taken with a shorter lens with a very small aperture (F-22)opening and also used a tripod.

Example: a narrow Depth of Field Also known as shallow focus Macro or close-up photography Large aperture Can also be accomplished by increasing focal length. This picture was taken with a medium range lens with a very large aperture (F-1.8)

Narrow Depth of Field Long Focal Length Maximize Optical Zoom focal length: 200 mm Narrow Depth of Field Long Focal Length Maximize Optical Zoom

Deep Depth of Field Short Focal Length Wide angle lens Focal length: 15 mm
