Still Life… Pumpkins

Still Life Still Life Pumpkin retrieved Sept. 20 from http://www.postcardfromholland.com/still_life_pumpkin.html Still Life with Pumpkin by Martha Doolin Still Life, ACEO Autumn Pumpkin Harvest by Nancy Poucher Pumpkin Still Life by Denise Callanan-Kline Pumpkin (oil on wood) by Brent Scowden

Still Life… Pumpkins Getting started… Look at, touch and study pumpkins: Notice the shape. What kind of lines do you see? Follow the lines with your finger. What textures do you notice? Try some OBSERVATIONAL DRAWINGS of pumpkins, recording the lines, shapes and textures that you see.

Still Life… Pumpkins Lightly plan your still life. Fill the space, creating an observational drawing of a pumpkin using pencil. Introduce oil pastel (TIP: wipe first for ‘clean’ colour) Determine the direction of the LIGHT SOURCE and notice how this affects the colour and value (shadows and highlights)

Still Life… Pumpkins In Progress

Still Life… Pumpkins Use at least 2 analagous colours for each part of the pumpkin (e.g. yellow and light green for the stem) to create dimension. Analagous colours (side-by-side) TIP: Apply the colour to follow the shape of the object (e.g. rounded strokes to show rounded surfaces)
