Study the subject (poinsettias), noticing the lines, shapes, angles and proportions.
Try several observational drawings in your sketchbook, recording the shapes and lines that you see.

6. Medium: Oil Pastels
1. Consider a LIGHT SOURCE. Decide on the direction of the light source for your work. Determine which parts of each petal will be lighter, and which will be darker, based on your light source.
Use at LEAST 2 colours for each part of the flower (e.g. light green and dark green for the stem; pink, red and crimson for petals) to create dimension and depth.
Apply colour in rounded strokes, following the shape of the petals and blending colours by layering or overlapping.
Study poinsettias when adding final details, like veins in the leaves.
Analagous colours (neighouring colours that are side-by-side on colour wheel)
