Cold war 1945-1991 Korean War 1950 The cold war went on from 1945-1991. It began in 1945 due to the communists wanting to spread communism around the world, one way or another, and non-communists wanted to stop them. The reason it ended was because of the collapse of communist block countries. In the midst of the war (the 1950s) the Korean War also broke out.
