Period 3.1- French and Indian war, Causes and effects, Causes of the American Revolution

Big Ideas from 3.1 1. How did the Seven Years War alter the Relationship between the British and the Colonist? 2. What arguments did the Colonist use to resists British actions following the War?

Review- French and Indian War Causes- Land- French Expansion into the Ohio River Valley and continued trade efforts with the Natives (Building of forts) WASHINGTON- The immediate cause of the entire War. #rebellfromthestart #whatcherrytree Effects (Legacies) : Brittan is in Massive DEBT!!!!!!!!!!!!!- leads to the end of Salutary Neglect France is gone as a world power- Britain is now World power (land and sea) Colonist gain power and confidence – shows Britain is not invincible Natives Done Colonist expand westward and Unite through fighting.

Causes of the American Revolution Following the end of the French and Indian War the British Begin to Tax the colonist “harshly” Due to the massive debt from all of the wars. Sugar Act 1764, Stamp Act-1765, Townshend acts-1767. Britain also looks to limit expansion- Proclamation line 1763

Period 3.1-II- the need for self government led to the American Revolution What United the colonist against the British: “No Taxation without representation”- Parliament said they had “virtual representation” Jamestown Charter-same rights as Englishmen? Taxes lead to many successful boycotts- Stamp Act Congress 1765- Organized boycott of British Goods- Leads to repeal of Stamp Act Committee of Correspondence- Unifies the 13 colonies- solidarity against the British How did the Colonist justify their resistance: Rejected virtual representation- did not represent the best interest of the colonist Taxation, writs of assistance, admiralty courts The Enlightenments and Great Awakening- Salutary Neglect “we were fine”

Justification Continued 4. Boston Massacre- British shoot on “unarmed” civilians 5. Boston Tea Party 6. Intolerable Acts

Individual of the American Revolution Samuel Adams and John Handcock- Founder of the Sons of Liberty Ben Franklin- “The US already gave enough to the Seven Year War” Thomas Paine- Common Sense Woman- http://score.rims.k12.ca.us/score_lessons/women_american_revolution/index.html John Adams- Defended the Boston Massacre Soldiers Paul Revere- The British are coming Drunk History https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4rnjV-GORg
