Full Year Electives ~ Foreign Languages ~ Spanish Ia (1/2 H.S Credit) ~ 7th grade only Spanish Ib (1/2 H.S. Credit) ~ 8th grade only Spanish I for Native Speakers ~ Students must have a Spanish language background in order to be eligible for this class. Spanish II/III K for Native Speakers ~ 2 H.S. Credits ~ 8th grade only. Student must take and pass a placement test in order to be eligible for this class. They must be able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently.

Full Year Electives ~ Foreign Languages Continued ~ Spanish I and II (at Arnold) French I and II (at CFHS) German I and II ( at CFHS ) Latin I and II ( at CFHS ) *(high school credits) Spanish, French, German and Latin I: you MUST have an 80 second semester average in your on level language arts class, or a 75 second semester average in your level one language arts class in order to take these classes.

High School Credits Foreign Language You need two years of the same foreign language to graduate on the Foundational + Endorsement high school plan. You may choose to begin your foreign language at middle school and earn high school credit, however some classes have a minimum grade requirement to take the class. Spanish Ia = ½ credit ~ Taken here at Arnold (7th grade only ~ you will take Spanish Ib in 8th grade to complete your full Spanish I credit.) Spanish Ib = ½ credit ~ Taken here at Arnold (8th grade only ~ Follow up class to Spanish Ia. This will complete your full Spanish I credit.) Spanish Native Speakers: Spanish I NS - 7th or 8th graders Spanish II/III K – 8th grade only Full Year Foreign Language: Spanish I = 1 credit ~ Taken here at Arnold (You may take Spanish II as an 8th grader) French I, Latin I, or German I = 1 credit ~ Taken at Cy-Fair High School (You may take French II, Latin II or German II as an 8th grader)

Semester Electives ~ 1/2 year ~ Art Design Exploring Foods and Fabrics Touch System Data Entry (typing) - ½ H.S. credit. Student Assistant – 8th Grade Only Application Class Application due in the Counselor’s office by 3/23/18

Recap: Who MUST complete an APPLICATION… Advanced Art – 7th and 8 graders Office Assistant, 8th graders only---you MUST fill out an application (pick up in the counseling office) and have good conduct. ½ year only!!! You will be assigned to work in one of the following: Library, Front Desk, AP Office, Counseling Office Yearbook application may be picked up in the counseling office, whole year course.

Some things to think about… If you pick a full-year elective, you are required to stay in that class. NO schedule changes If you sign up for ATHLETICS, you MUST participate in a sport and have a current physical!

Five and Six-Year Graduation Plan Registration is part of the academic planning process. The Graduation Plan will help you choose future classes. Remember, it is just a “plan.”

Graduation Plans Academic Planning is important for high school graduation, post-secondary learning, and career planning! You can take some high school credit classes in middle school--- some examples of these classes include CATE courses, and foreign languages. PLANNING for your future is important!

Foundation High School Program + Endorsement * 07/16/96 Foundation High School Program + Endorsement Graduation Requirement and Endorsement Options *

* 07/16/96 General Information 6th, 7th and 8th will graduate under the Foundation High School Program (FHSP) AND earn an endorsement. Your student indicates in writing an endorsement that the student intends to earn. A district must permit a student to choose to earn an endorsement other than the one the student previously indicated. S *

FHSP – Course Requirements English – 4 credits English I, II, III, & Advanced English PACE – ½ credit Mathematics – 3 credits Algebra I, Geometry, & Advanced Math Science – 3 credits Biology, IPC/Chemistry/Physics, & Advanced Science

FHSP – Course Requirements Social Studies – 3 credits World Geography OR World History US History Government (1/2) & Economics (1/2) Languages Other than English – 2 credits in the same language

FHSP – Course Requirements Physical Education – 1 credit Health – ½ credit Fine Arts – 1 credit Electives – 4 credits Total = 22 credits

+Endorsement One additional math credit One additional science credit Two additional electives FHSP + Endorsement = 26 credits

LOTE Note – Special Education A student, who due to a disability, is unable to complete 2 LOTE credits may substitute: (determined by ARD committee) a combination of two credits from ELA, math, science, or social studies; two CTE credits; or two technology application credits.

Endorsements A student may earn an endorsement by successfully completing: FHSP requirements; curriculum for the specific endorsement; four math credits; four science credits; and two additional electives. TOTAL = 26 credits

Business & Industry Options (3) CTE – Four credits by taking at least 2 courses in same career cluster Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources Architecture & Construction Arts, Audio/Video Technology, & Communications Business Management & Administration Marketing

Business & Industry - Continued Options – more CTE clusters continued Information Technology Manufacturing Hospitality & Tourism Finance Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics with at least 1 advanced course (3rd or higher course in the sequence)

Business & Industry - Continued Options – more English – Four English elective credits with three levels in one of the following areas Advanced Journalism – newspaper Advanced Journalism – yearbook Debate

Business & Industry - Continued Options – more Combination – Students take a coherent sequence of four credits from the CTE Option or the English Option. Combination plan must include ONE advanced CTE course.

STEM The STEM endorsement must include Algebra II, Chemistry, and Physics regardless of the option the student chooses to meet the endorsement requirements.

STEM - Continued Options – more CTE – Four credits by taking at least 2 courses in the same cluster that lead to a final course in the STEM cluster with at least 1 course at the advance level (3rd year or higher course in the sequence)

STEM - Continued Options – more Math – 5 credits: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II AND 2 MORE courses for which Algebra II is a prerequisite (see approved list) Science – 5 credits: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics AND 2 MORE courses from the 4th science course list

STEM - Continued Options – more Combination – Algebra II, Chemistry, Physics, an additional math course, an additional science course, AND 3 more credits from the Computer Science Option and/or CTE STEM Option.

Multidisciplinary Studies Options (2) 4x4 – Four courses in each of the 4 core subject areas to include English IV and chemistry and/or physics AP – Four AP credits or four dual credit course credits from among English, math, science, social studies, LOTE, or fine arts OR students take a combination of AP or Dual Credit courses for 4 credits in English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, or fine arts.

Distinguished Level of Achievement A student must earn distinguished level of achievement to be eligible for the top 10% automatic admission. The distinguished level of achievement requires four credits in math including Algebra II, four credits in science, all other FHSP requirements, and at least one endorsement.
