They were sailors recruited in India to work for the East India Company, The next wave of Muslim immigration to Britain followed the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 The first mosque in Britain is recorded as having been at 2 Glyn Rhondda Street, Cardiff, in 1860. Today about 2-4% of the population are Muslims.

The Global Compact Human Rights Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. Labour Standards Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. Environment Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies Anti-Corruption Principle 10: Businesses should work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery.

UN (Social Capital): Islam Human Rights 1: The support and respect of the protection of international human rights 2: The refusal to participate or condone human rights abuses. Islam Right to life Right to a basic standard of living The Right to Individual Freedom Freedom of expression Freedom of belief The Qur’an emphasizes the value of human life by equating one life with that of the entire people (Qur’an 5:32)

UN Labour Rights (Human Capital): Islam 3: The support of freedom of association and the recognition of the right to collective bargaining; 4: The abolition of compulsory labour; 5: The abolition of child labour; 6: The elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation. Islam Hiring someone for unspecified work is invalid. The effort required must be stipulated, and workers should not be overburdened Wages must be paid and slavery is discouraged Working conditions must be safe.

UN Environment (Natural Capital): Islam 7: The implementation of a precautionary and effective program to environmental issues; 8: Initiatives that demonstrate environmental responsibility; 9: The promotion of the diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. Islam Nature belongs to Allah and not to Man (Qur’an 4:126) Islam encourages moderation and discourages waste (Qur’an 7:31)
