2 What is the Global Compact? Overview The United Nations Global Compact is a voluntary international corporate citizenship network initiated to advance responsible corporate citizenship and universal social and environmental principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption. The Global Compact is … a voluntary initiative to promote and advance responsible business a universal value framework to help use get organized a platform for innovation The Global Compact is not… a regulatory body a substitute for regulation at the national or international level

3 Over 6800 current business participants in 140+ countries including our customers (Kimberly-Clark, Whirlpool, Goodyear, Symantec, Teva, Kraft and Cameron) and competitors (Accenture, Capgemini, WIPRO, Infosys, and Tata) Over 3100 non-business participants from civil society, labour, academia 185 of the Financial Times Global 500 companies (by market cap) Global Compact 2012 Facts and Figures

4 A leadership initiative, the Compact commits to Ten Principles formally endorsed by our CEO and Management Committee. The Ten Principles HUMAN RIGHTS Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; andPrinciple 1 Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.Principle 2: LABOR Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;Principle 3 Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor;Principle 4 Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labor; andPrinciple 5 Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.Principle 6 ENVIRONMENT Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;Principle 7 Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; andPrinciple 8 Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.Principle 9 ANTI-CORRUPTION Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.Principle 10

5 Companies must communicate annually with stakeholders on how they live up to their commitment The overall format is flexible, but should be fully integrated in the participant’s main medium of stakeholder communications The COP can be created as a stand-alone document, if the participant does not publish a formal Annual report or CSR The COP can be written to meet 3 different levels of participation based upon the integration of the principles and contribution to broader UN goals Communication on Progress: Overview

6 Companies at the Active level have submitted a COP that meets all minimum requirements, thereby demonstrating a commitment to progress and transparency A statement by the chief executive expressing continued support for the Global Compact A description of practical actions in each of the four issue areas (human rights, labor, environment, anticorruption(report or explain)) A measurement of outcomes Our Goal

7 Companies can be designated at the Learner or Advanced Levels Applicability: Companies that have submitted a timely COP, but are missing one or more required elements of the GC Active category Benefit: 12 additional months to submit a COP that meets all COP requirements Purpose: To aid small and less experienced companies become GC Active Companies must meet (or plan to meet) 24 Advanced Criteria

8 First COP due May 2012 and subsequent COPs due within one year following the previous submission Participants who fail to submit a COP become non-communicating and after one year of being non- communicating are expelled from the Global Compact Deadline extension granted by submitting a grace letter on the website and providing a reasonable explanation Adjust reporting cycles if we publish relevant reports that have different reporting cycles we can request
