What is communication?? The word communication as originated from the Latin word "Communis" which means something common. Communication is the process of exchanging information, ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions through speech signals, writing or behavior.

the communication process involve, the sender who encodes the message who use any medium received by receiver who decodes the message and give appropriate feedback and so the process continues

INTRA-PERSONAL COMMUNICATION It is the process in which people communicate with themselves either consciously or unconsciously.

INTER-PERSONAL COMMUNICATION This communication happens between two or more people

GROUP DISCUSSION A group discussion is in which a group of individuals with similar interest are gathered either formally or informally to bring up ideas, solve problems or give comments.

MASS COMMUNICATION Communication through electronic gadgets i.e. mass media like books, TV, newspaper etc.

EXTRA-PERSONAL COMMUNICATION This is the communication between humans and nonhuman entities. Example:-Dog ,Cat ,Trees ,Sea , etc.

2 FLOW OF COMMUNICATION Vertical Communication Horizontal Communication Diagonal/Cross-sectional communication

VERTICAL COMMUNICATION Vertical communication occurs when information flows either from superior to subordinates or from subordinates to supervisor within an organization structure.

TYPES OF VERTICAL COMMUNICATION UPWARD: Upward communication occurs when information flows from subordinates to superiors in the organization hierarchy.

DOWNWARDS: Downward communication occurs when information flows from superiors to subordinates in the organization hierarchy.

HORIZONTAL COMMUNICATION Horizontal communication is the transmission of information between people, divisions, departments or units within the same level of organizational hierarchy.

DIAGONAL/CROSS-SECTIONAL COMMUNICATION Diagonal Communication is transfer of information between people who are neither in the same department nor on the same level of organization. This provide cross communication between departments.

VERBAL COMMUNICATION Verbal communication refers to the form of communication in which message is transmitted verbally through mouth, orals, or a piece of writing.

TYPES WRITTEN ORAL It includes face-to-face conversations, speeches, group discussion, PPT, video, radio, interview, etc. It includes letters, memos, reports, minutes, sms, e-mail, miscellaneous, etc.

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION Non-verbal communication between people is communication through sending and receiving wordless clues. It includes the use of visual clues such as body language, distance and physical environments, appearance, of voice and of touch.
