Future Planning for Christ Church May 13, 2018

Input December 2016 – IMNA survey March 2017 – Community round table discussions to assess our image and opportunities October 2017 - Long-range Planning paper – Jim Cairney November 2017- January 2018 – Discussion groups with Christ Church members to get input on possible direction and opportunities for the future Input

Demographics - aging congregation and millennials who aren’t comfortable with the traditional church approach. Limited volunteer and leadership resources Location – CCU not on a main street to attract attention Building – facilities not optimal to help the church move forward. Spiritual Engagement – difficulty in attracting and retaining new people. Community profile – mainly known for Spring Thing Time – Some urgency to act now while we have the people, financial resources and the opportunities to make viable choices. Challenges

Action items Community Involvement establish working group to propose key area of mission outreach to community communicate what Christ Church and UCC stand for and what is offered develop a vision and brand for Christ Church establish greater community presence through external communications eg. social media, website, earned media, advertising offer our space to the community host community events with other churches partner with other groups/associations in ways that support common goals Action items

Action items Spiritual Engagement look at new worship opportunities and spiritual programs for all ages nurture a Christian community - focused on reflection, Christian faith, sharing of spirituality and growth in same explore using music or some other programs to engage young families develop a plan to renew and refresh church space and facilities to support a welcoming and modern worship environment Action items

Action items Strong connection with members enhance communications to members using technology and visual techniques determine which programs/events are of high interest/value to members to help prioritize time and resources look at how we can be more welcoming to current and new members reconnect with occasional/lapsed members establish linkages between 9:02 and 10:30 services Action items

Timelines March 28 – presentation to Church Council May 13 – special congregational meeting May 27, June 3 – implementation team meetings to identify and prioritize action items June 3 – update at congregational meeting September – report back to Council with action plan list of implementation items and budget for 2018/19 October - report back to congregation with action plan for 2018/19 Timelines
