2 Why a Vision? Communicate and gain congregation support for Messiah’s future ministries, staffing, and facility improvements. Provide a roadmap to implement future programs and resource enhancements. Prioritize the outlay of Messiah’s human and financial resources. Support the Book of Discipline requirement for a modernization report describing church and community needs. 2

5 2020 Vision Goals Goal 1 – Radical Hospitality: Intentional activities aimed at inviting persons into, or back into, the life of our church. Objectives: Improve access to, and the safety of, Messiah facilities. Expand use of communication tools to attract worshippers. Expand ministries and programs to attract and serve all visitors and members. Number 1 Priority Goal 5

6 2020 Vision Goals (Cont’d) Goal 2 – Passionate Worship: An authentic, alive, creative, and comprehensible experience where persons receive the life-changing presence of God in the presence of others. Enhance the Messiah music program. Enhance the Messiah worship experience. Number 2 Priority Goal 6

7 2020 Vision Goals (Cont’d) Goal 3 – Intentional Faith Development: The practice of learning that gives participants a support group and an opportunity to grow and mature in Christ. Expand small group participation in the life of Messiah. Goal 4 – Extravagant Generosity: The act of graciously and responsibly placing ourselves and our resources in service to God. Increase congregational giving by 10 percent each year. 7

8 2020 Vision Goals (Cont’d) Goal 5 – Risk-Taking Mission and Service: The projects, efforts, and work that people do to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need for the purposes of Christ. Increase Messiah ministries and support of the underserved in our community. Goal 6 – New Faith Community: Establish a new, different congregation or community reaching new people. Plan for and launch a new faith community by 2015. 8

9 2020 Vision Goals (Cont’d) Goal 7 – Pastor and Staff Enrichment Increase staff commensurate with expanded and new initiatives. Enhance the morale, productivity and effectiveness of Messiah pastors and staff. Goal 8: Environmental Stewardship Care for God’s creation by promoting an attitude of environmental “friendliness” through awareness and education programs, infrastructure improvements and ministry activities. 9

11 Key 2020 Vision Milestone Dates September 2010 – Overview of draft Vision presented to congregation at “Messiah Day” services December 2010 – Vision posted on Messiah web site following Church Council approval May 2012 – Vision Training Workshop o Participants included Messiah pastors, staff, and committee members o Convened 7 break-out sessions to document progress in implementing goals and create action plans for future ministries o Will coordinate plans with full committees and provide overview to Church Council and congregation 11
