Days of the Week Days of the week are written with Upper case letters (capital letters) The first day of the week is Sunday. The last day of the week is Saturday The weekdays are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The weekend days are Saturday and Sunday. With the days of the week you use the preposition “on”

School starts on Mondays. During Tuesdays and Thursdays we do our AR reading. We go to the library on Fridays. Today I worked on a passage of Fluent Reader.

What day is it? Today is Monday. What day was yesterday? Yesterday was Sunday. What day will be tomorrow? Tomorrow will be Tuesday.

Abbreviations Notice that "weekdays" and "days of the week" are not the same. "Days of the week" are all 7 days from Monday to Sunday. "Weekdays" are only the 5 days from Monday to Friday. Months of the Year There are 12 months in a year. The months of the year are written with Upper case letters (capital letters) All months have 30 or 31 days, except for February which has 28 days The year has 365 days except on “leap” years. Every fourth year, the month of February has 29 days instead of 28. This year is called a "leap year" and the 29th of February is a "leap day". A leap year has 366 days instead of the normal 365

April April is the fourth month of the year. My birthday is in April. My birthday is on April 29th. We celebrate Eastern in April.

May We celebrate Mother’s Day in May. May is the fifth month of the year. My brother’s birthday is in May.

June The school is over in June. Summer season starts in June June is the sixth month of the year.

July Independence day is on July 4th. July is the seventh month of the year. My family and I will go on vacations in July.

August We go back to school in August. August is the last month of the summer. August is the eighth month of the year.

September September is the ninth month of the year. September has 30 days. The Fall starts in September.

October We celebrate Halloween in October. October has 31 days. October is the tenth month of the year.

November Thanksgiving is celebrated in November. November is the eleventh month of the year. November is the month before last of the year.

December December is the last month of the year. Christmas is celebrated in December. We celebrate Christmas on December 25th.

Review Days of the week and months of the year are written with capital letters. For the days of the week , use the preposition “on” For the months of the year, use the preposition “in” Be careful with dates, use preposition “on” on Monday in July on May 8th Remember the terms: today, yesterday, tomorrow, first, last, before, after. today is … yesterday was…. tomorrow will be… the last day of the week , the first day of the month, the day before yesterday , the day after today
