TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta MOMENTS Models and Methods for Future Knowledge Construction: Interdisiplinary Implementations with Mobile Techologies Jari Multisilta Professor Tampere University of Technology

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta The Aim of the Project The aim of this project is to model the future education needs and methods, with a special emphasis on network-based education (NBE) and mobile technologies. During the research project, the new integrated model will be created, applied and evaluated in selected case studies with company partners, aiming at novel applications in the field.

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta Interaction between the WPs

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 1 Project Management The objectives of wp 1 are to ensure the smooth progress of the project according to the work plan, fulfilment of the consortium contractual obligations, minimization of unforeseen problems, resolution of conflicts, and provision of the necessary liaisons between the consortium, Academy of Finland and the National Technology Agency. The co-ordination of international co-operation and the work of the Steering Committee.

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 2 Defining Different Approaches to Teaching, Studying and Learning What kind of learning theories, pedagogical methods and models appear in network-based education (NBE)? What are the pedagogically-appropriate characteristics of new TSL models? How should NBE be designed and assessed? How is NBE defined in national and international strategies of an information society? What sort of potential and impact do the Internet and mobile technologies have on our everyday lives? What kind of network-based training needs do the participating companies have? What kind of vision is likely to guide us when aiming at educational applications of mobile technologies? To what extent does the usability of NBE materials and solutions affect studying and learning processes?

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 3 Analysis of Network-Based Education Models

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 4 Cases Case 1) Navigation Processes in Digital Learning Materials –Tampere University of Technology Case 2) Mobile Support for Company Groupwork –Tampere University of Technology Case 3) Dynamic Materials in Networked TLS Environments –University of Turku Case 4) Educational Use of ICT in Higher Education –University of Helsinki Case 5) Contextualised and Experiential Use of Narratives in the Tutoring and Guidance Process –University of Helsinki Case 6) Network-Based Mental Tools in Technology Education –University of Lapland

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 5 From Analysis to Synthesis-- Evaluation of the Case Studies This work package is carried out by analyzing the case studies, in the means of three tasks: Task 5.1. To identify key issues relating to the case studies Task 5.2. To compile a detailed report of the results of the experiments Task 5.3. To identify the processes of knowledge construction

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 6 The Integrated Model Revisited The main aim of this work package is to construct a new integrated model of learning based on the interim analyses in WP 2 and 3 and explicitly grounded on the analysis and evaluation in WP 5. The main research question in this package is to describe the new integrated learning model on the basis of results achieved in the case studies.

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta WP 7 Dissemination The objective of this work package is to ensure effective dissemination of results. The work package contains four tasks: dissemination plan, dissemination of project results, model implemantation plan, and organization of research seminars.

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta Project timetable

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta Research Training The primary objective of research training is to promote training-through-research, especially of young researchers within the frame of national and international collaboration. The doctoral students who are doing research in the MOMENTS project form the research training group. An annual research training seminar will be organised in Finland during the project.

TTKK, Pori Jari Multisilta Research Training One of the international consortium members give a short course on specific topic during the research training seminar. The doctoral students are required to present their work on seminars as well as in international conferences. The outcome of the research training will be 4-5 doctoral theses, several international refereed conference papers and journal articles.
