Reproduction Introduction Asexual reproduction: 1. The prefix “A” comes from the Greek language and means without. 2.The term asexual means without to.

Sexual vs. Asexual Reproduction. Extra chromosomes allow all female lizards to reproduce without males  double their chromosomes twice before everything.
Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction.  Parent cell first copies its DNA  Then divides into 2 separate cells  New cells have a complete copy of parent’s.

Types of Reproduction in the Animal Kingdom Sexual Reproduction and Asexual Reproduction including Budding, Gemmule Formation/Sporulation, Binary Fission, Regeneration

Sexual Reproduction The egg cell from the female parent and the sperm cell from the male parent unite and fertilization occurs. Offspring is diverse (genetically different) than parents.

Asexual Reproduction In asexual reproduction, no sex cells one parent. uniform genetically identical or the same. asexual reproduction\Asexual_Reproduction.mov

Budding In budding, offspring grows out of the body of a parent. An example of an animal that reproduces this way if hydra. This animal lives in water.. asexual reproduction\Budding.mov

Gemmule Formation/Sporulation Gemmules are internal buds. The parent animal releases a mass of special cells that can develop into an offspring. An example = sponge. . Sporulation: Fungi – Mushrooms asexual reproduction\Sporulation.mov

Binary Fission Binary Fission Parent cell and chromosomes copy and divide in half evenly. Example: Amoeba asexual reproduction\Protists__Binary_Fission.mov asexual reproduction\Bacteria__Binary_Fission.mov

Regeneration In regeneration, a piece of the parent animal gets detached. The piece can grow and develop into a whole new individual. It regenerates (or generates again) all the missing parts of the body. An example is the sea star or star fish. asexual reproduction\Regeneration.mov
