1 Asexual Reproduction

2 Asexual reproduction – the formation of offspring from a single parent
Asexual reproduction – the formation of offspring from a single parent. The offspring is genetically identical to the parent.

3 Asexual Reproduction (5 types)
1. Sporulation 2. Binary Fission 3. Budding 4. Regeneration 5. Vegetative Propagation

4 Sporulation reproduction involving specialized single cells coming from one parent the diagram of mold spores being formed is an example of this

5 Binary Fission Bacteria reproduction involving no nucleus. Before reproduction starts the DNA is copied.

6 Budding Cells form a structure called a bud on the body of the parent. The bud continues to grow through cell division to form a structure that looks like a small hydra. When the bud is large enough, it breaks off from the parent body and lives on its own. The parent divides the nucleus evenly but the cytoplasm unequally.

7 Regeneration A complete, fully developed, mature organism develops from a fragment of the parent. Example: flatworm

8 Vegetative Propagation
A new plant can be grown from a plant part, such as a leaf or a piece of a stem or root.

19 CAN YOU CORRECTLY IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION?

20 REVIEW How many parents are involved?
Are the daughter cells genetically identical to the parent cell or different? Are the cells haploid or diploid?
