Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) Extracurricular learning component of the IB Diploma Program Continuous over 18 months Creativity -- plays, painting, literary choreography, music lessons leading to a performance given to the community, art classes, visiting art museums Activity -- sports (school or elsewhere) kickboxing, sailing, weightlifting, weight control activities, jogging, running a 5K, skating, rock climbing, etc… Service -- tutoring, nursing home visits, service-oriented clubs, Amigos, election judging, big brother/sister, etc…

Other Options Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Universities and colleges throughout Minnesota offer college credit recognition to students who complete PLTW foundational courses and specialty courses from certified high schools. Students must earn a class grade of 85% or higher, taken the college credit exam with a passing grade of at least 70%. CLEP Exams CLEP offers 33 exams in five subject areas, covering material taught in courses that you may generally take in your first two years of college. PSEO The Minnesota Legislature created Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) programs in 1985 to promote rigorous course taking and improve student transitions to postsecondary education. PSEO allows high school juniors, seniors and some sophomores to take college courses.

Why PSEO? Students in PSEO prefer the learning environment of being on a college campus. Students prefer the independence and flexibility of their “college schedule.” Students can receive both high school and college credit. Example: Taking a 4 credit English course at the U of MN will earn the student those 4 credits AND 1.0 credit of English at Washburn.

Considerations for PSEO High School PSEO You are learning with your peers You are learning with young adults and adults Your classes are within your high school building. You know how to get there. Your classes will be in different locations on a college campus. You need to figure out logistics of how to get there and back home. Teachers approach you if they believe you need assistance Professors typically expect you to initiate contact if you need assistance Testing is frequent and covers small amounts of material Testing is often infrequent and cumulative, covering large amounts of material

Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) June 1st / December 1st deadlines Juniors: Top 1/3 of class or 3.0 GPA Seniors: Top ½ of class or 2.5 GPA Pass the Accuplacer Test Application is on-line only: pick-up instructions and other materials in counseling office. Courses in Nursing, Air Traffic Control, Audio Production, Cinema, Video Arts, Photography are not available to PSEO students.
