Why do Children have to take SATS? SATS are a standardised way of assessing children’s learning at the end of key stage 2. Schools are required to administrate Key stage 2 SATs

What are SATS? Children will be tested in a formal environment on: English reading booklet & answer paper English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 1 – short answer questions Paper 2 - spelling Mathematics Paper 1 – Arithmetic (replaces mental maths) Paper 2 – Reasoning Paper 3 – Reasoning Science sampling for selected schools

Timetable Monday 14th May Tuesday 15th May Wednesday 16th May Thursday English Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling Paper 1 – short answer questions Paper 2 - spelling English Reading Test 1 hour in total (separate reading and answer booklet) Mathematics Paper 1 – arithmetic test Paper 2 - reasoning Paper 3 – reasoning

Writing assessment On going teacher assessment. Children will have to demonstrate they can write in a range of different genre. Spell all words on the Year 3/4 spelling list and most of the ones on year 5/6 list. Have fluent joined handwriting. Use all Year 6 grammar objectives correctly in their writing.

Who will be taking SATS? All children in year 6 who are working at age standards. If children are not working at this level then they will be formally disapplied by the school and parents will be informed.

The results Results are available to school electronically in the first week of July. KS2 test outcomes will not longer be reported in levels. Scaled scores will be used instead. Scaled scores help test results to be reported consistently year on year Scaled score of 100 will always represent the expected standard This will be the only threshold set – there will be no higher/above threshold or lower/below threshold scores to indicate whether a child is exceeding or working below

What you will receive as a parent: Each registered pupil will receive (for each test) A raw score (total marks awarded) A scaled score Confirmation about whether or not they have achieved the expected standard

What you can do to help prepare your child for these tests? Help with homework- maths, grammar and comprehension booklets and spellings and tables- all of these will be really helpful. Mathletics- we have signed up for this online resource- new …..
