2. How children are assessed in UKS2
Assessment forms a really important part of your child’s development in school and allows us to ensure that your child is making progress in their learning.
At Rose Hill, we use assessment very carefully in UKS2 both in the classroom and more formally to track progress
Children in UKS2 are working towards their end of key stage assessments, more formally referred to as SATS

3. What are SATS?
The SATS are Statutory Assessment Tests that the children take in year 6 at the end of the Key Stage. Children work towards their SATs throughout their time in UKS2.
In conjunction with Teacher assessment, they inform a Age Related Expectation for your child.

4. What will be tested?
In the Summer Term 2019, children at the end of Key Stage 2 will sit the SATs papers
Children will sit SATS in:
Reading
English grammar, punctuation and spelling (SPaG)
Maths
Please note that writing is separately assessed and there is no formal assessment for writing.

5. When will my child take KS2 SATs?
The year 6 KS2 SATs will be administered in the week commencing Monday 13th May 2019

6. English Children will be tested in the following areas: Reading
Spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG)
Please note that whilst there is no formal assessment for writing, a teacher assessment is submitted during the Summer Term. Every year, a random selection of schools are moderated for their writing assessments to ensure that writing is still closely monitored.

7. Reading
The reading test will be a single paper with questions based on three passages of text
Your child will have one hour, including reading time, to complete the test
There will be a selection of question types, including:
Ranking/ ordering
Labelling
Find and Copy
Short constructed response
Open- ended response

11. Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar
The grammar, punctuation and spelling test will consist of two parts
Part One- grammar and punctuation paper requiring short answers, lasting 45 minutes
Part Two- Aural spelling test of 20 words, lasting around 20 minutes

15. Maths In the Summer Term 2019, children will be tested in Maths.
The KS2 mathematics test comprises of:
Paper 1- Arithmetic (30 minutes)
Paper 2- Reasoning (40 minutes)
Paper 3- Reasoning (40 minutes)

16. Arithmetic Test
The arithmetic test will be a single paper, which will consist of fixed response questions, where children have to give the correct answer to calculations including long multiplication and division.
Your child will have 30 minutes to complete the test
The test is scored out of 40

19. Reasoning
Maths reasoning involves two separate tests which are structured very similarly.
Your child will have 40 minutes to complete the paper
Each paper is out of 35 marks.

22. How the children are assessed
The previous national curriculum levels are no longer used, and instead children are given a scaled score.
You will be given your child’s raw score (the actual number of marks that they got) and then this is converted into a scaled score.

23. What do Scaled Scores mean?
A score between indicates that a child is working towards the end of KS2 expectations
A score between indicates that a child is working at the end of KS2 expectations
A score between indicates that a child is working above the end of KS2 expectations

24. When will we find out the results?
Towards the end of the summer term you will be given a report telling you your child's raw score (the actual number of marks they got in their SATs), their scaled score and whether or not they have achieved the national standard. 
Teacher assessments will also be used to build up a picture of your child’s learning and achievements.

25. CGP Books
This year, we have bought the children in year 6 a selection of revision books that they will be receiving on Friday. Each week, the children will be set homework from these books in line with the work that is being completed in class.
They are a fantastic revision resource and will ensure that the children feel prepared for their assessments in May.

26. How can I help my child prepare for assessments?
Encourage your child positively, without putting too much pressure on them.
Support with homework
Use revision guides, Mathletics and websites to support your child’s learning
Read with your child, using the question stems that were available during parents evening
Find opportunities for your child to use numbers in every day situations. Ask your child to explain why they know that answer is right
