FAQ – Certified Registered Safety Professional What is the Certified Registered Safety Professional? Certified Registered Safety Professional is a professional certification designed to recognize those individuals who have invested heavily in their skills, education and experience as a practitioner of safety management. It is built on an industry best-practice model reflecting the attributes, competencies and experience necessary to standout in the field as a safety professional. The certification is backed by the standards, verification and testing provided by the International Society of Safety Professionals (ISSP). Why do I need the Certification? For too many years, safety was viewed as a job function instead of a profession. There was no way to prove your level of achievement as a safety practitioner who carries the high level of responsibility for organizational safety management. Unlike engineering-based safety and reliability analyst roles, the successful organizational safety professional demonstrates a high level of competency in multiple domains including human factors, workplace and occupational safety, hazard analysis and risk management, business management, communication and training. Given this diversity, how can employers evaluate the skills of these professionals? One key way will be by looking at the individuals certification.

The certification was developed and is managed by the ISSP, a U.S.-registered Non Profit Organization founded and operated by safety professionals. The purpose of the ISSP is to promote and advance the profession of safety management, provide safety management education opportunities and to create a public registry of qualified safety professionals. As an association, the ISSP exists to: bring enhanced credibility to the profession of safety management have a global voice and the ability to shape our profession Educate the world about the role of the safety professional, their duties, responsibilities, education requirements and most importantly, the value safety professionals bring to the organization Who recognizes the Certification? The certification is designed to be a recognizable measure of professionalism and accomplishment that employers, regulators, customers and other organizational stakeholders will value in evaluating the capabilities of safety professionals

FAQ – Certified Registered Safety Professional Can I just pay a registration fee and get a designation? NO! The program evaluates the combination of experience, education and competency in those areas deemed critical for successful safety professionals. Experience and education are evaluated against standards and competency is determined through standardized testing against a published Book of Knowledge. The credibility and success of the program is dependent upon its integrity and transparency which is monitored by the independent Board of Directors of the ISSP. What are the levels of Certification? The program maintains three levels of progressively more stringent qualifications, including Basic, Diamond and Platinum levels. Each level requires an increasing level of professional education and competency on top of successful completion of the exam administered by the ISSP. How do I apply for the certification? The application is open to ISSP members in good standing. To apply, visit https://www.isspsafety.org/Certification/CRSP for ISSP membership and application details.
