Keep all of your items in a locker Clubs and activities AFTER school Agenda-No one at home has to sign reading log Dress out for Gym Five minutes between classes Projects and assignments due on different days of the week Compare and Contrast

First thing’s first: Let’s define it! Break down the word MANAGE What does it mean to manage something? What does it mean to manage your time? First thing’s first: Let’s define it!

Prioritize Prioritize means to put activities in a list of importance. Activities that are very important to us are placed at the top of the list. Activities that are not very important to us are placed at the bottom of the list Prioritize

How do you make sure the important things get done in the right time? Can you fit in the ‘fun’ stuff? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0hqBIugr 7I Rocks/Sand Activity

Where does it go on my list?! You will be given a list of priorities and a scenario of a typical day afterschool. Try to put your list in order of most important to least important – remember, you only have until 9pm to work it out! Where does it go on my list?!

Your bus was late picking students up from school this afternoon Your bus was late picking students up from school this afternoon. Because of this, you got home at 5:00pm. This is 30 minutes later than when you usually get home. Your bedtime is 9:00pm. Hint – you have 4 hours (240 minutes) of time to schedule. The total time of all activites is 260 minutes – what will you ‘cut’?? Scenario 1

Check back for clarification Whole class discussion questions: What did your group members place at the top of your list? What items were on the bottom? Did your group get everything done before 9:00pm? List one thing that you have learned about prioritizing. Check back for clarification

You arrive home from school at 4:30pm You arrive home from school at 4:30pm. You are very sleepy, so you take a nap. It is 6:00pm when you wake up and it is time for dinner. By the time you finish eating and cleaning up from dinner it is 7:00pm. You’re not sleepy from your nap, but you still have to be in bed with lights off by 9:00pm. Hint – you have 2 hours (120 minutes) of time to schedule Scenario 2

Check back for clarification Whole class discussion questions: What did your group members place at the top of your list? What items were on the bottom? Did your group get everything done before 9:00pm? List one thing that you have learned about prioritizing. Check back for clarification

Now try your OWN Schedule - Handout If we plan things that we must do, then we have more time for the things we want to do. Sleep – at least 8 hours! School – 8:00-3:00 pm Monday – Friday Meals – Breakfast, lunch, dinner Fill in regularly scheduled activities - team practices, after-school tutoring or afterschool care, piano lessons, Scout meetings, church activities, chores that you have at home, etc. Put in time for homework and study. How much time do you have left? What are some things that you enjoy doing in your free time? Write in those activities. Now try your OWN Schedule - Handout
