3 Today in Classroom Guidance
Beginning Question: What is time management? What does it look like to manage my time? Activity: Quick review from previous lesson-Compare and contrast middle school to elementary school. ‘Let’s Race!’ –Can you get everything on the list done before bed time?! When it’s all said and done: Rising 6th graders will be able to define time management. Rising 6th graders will identify at least one technique that will help her/him manage their time in school. Today in Classroom Guidance

4 Compare and Contrast Elementary School Middle School
Teacher tells you when it is time to switch classes. Keep all of your items in your cubby Clubs and activities DURING school Reading log-someone at home signs the log Same classes each day Your specials come to you Bell rings for you to switch classes. Keep all of your items in a locker Clubs and activities AFTER school Agenda-No one at home has to sign reading log Dress out for Gym Five minutes between classes Projects and assignments due on different days of the week Compare and Contrast

5 First thing’s first: Let’s define it!
Break down this compound word: Spend 60 seconds with your partner to answer these two questions: What does it mean to manage something? What does it mean to manage your time? First thing’s first: Let’s define it!

6 Prioritize Prioritize means to put activities in a list of importance.
Activities that are very important to us are placed at the top of the list. Activities that are not very important to us are placed at the bottom of the list Prioritize

7 Where does it go on my list?!
In your groups work together to put your priorities in order of importance to get everything done before bed time! Where does it go on my list?!

8 Practice Makes Perfect…Let’s do the math!
Time to work as class… Time management worksheet Practice Makes Perfect…Let’s do the math!

9 Check back for clarification
Whole class discussion questions: What did your group members place at the top of your list?—What items were on the bottom? Did your group get everything done before 9:00pm? List one thing that you have learned about prioritizing. Check back for clarification
