Welcome to Second Grade Open House!

Curriculum You can locate Curriculum Overviews on the Curriculum and Instruction page of the Klein web site.

Buddy Spelling This year Klein has moved into the Buddy System for spelling. The class will generate a list that pertains to the pattern of that week. From that list students will choose their own words and are to record them in their planners. Along with those words will be a few high frequency words.

Grading Guidelines Major = 50% and Minor = 50% Excellent work , thoroughly understands concept taught 80 - 89 B Good work, understands concept taught 75 - 79 C Satisfactory work, mostly grasps concept taught 70 - 74 D Needs Improvement; rarely grasps concept taught 0 - 69 F Unsatisfactory work; reteaching needed

Wednesday Folders Wednesday Folders are sent every Wednesday. These folders should be signed and returned on Thursday. They contain the following items: School Notes/Announcements Graded Papers Behavior

Progress Reports All students receive a progress report. They are sent midway through the grading period. (5th week) All students receive a progress report. Please sign and return the next day. Conferences are available if needed. Use ParentConnect to view your child’s grades.

Student Portfolios Each child will keep a student portfolio. The student portfolio will include various student goals. It will chart student progress. The student portfolio will house campus and district assessments. It will travel through each grade with them.

Home Learning & Planners Daily folders and planners are to travel to and from school daily. Home learning is due the next day for Math and the reading passage and spelling are distributed on Monday and due on Friday. Please sign the planner nightly. Homework and Planners serve as a great way to practice organizational skills and help students develop responsibility.

Important Dates Parent/Teacher Conferences There is not going to be a day designated for conferences. If you would like one please notify us via email and we can set up a time to meet.

Remind Software Metzler is participating in Remind (www.remind.com)! Remind is a safe way for teachers to text message and stay in touch with parents. Immediately following Open House Mrs. Greene will send an email with the attachment for this information along with this power point.

Gifted and Talented Information The window for referring your child for GT testing begins August 24 and ends September 25. Sign for a packet in the front office and return it in person before the September 25 due date. Late packets cannot be accepted due to district deadlines with the testing company.
