Key Terms Militant can be described as favoring confrontational or violent methods in support of a political or social cause. Armada can be described as a fleet of warships. Inflation is the rate at which the general level of goods and services is rising and, subsequently, the purchasing power of currency is falling. Divine Right of Kings – that is kings receive their power God and are responsible only to God. 2/10/201810

The French Wars of Religion ( ) By 1560, their struggle for the minds and hearts of Europeans was the chief cause of the religious wars that plagued Europe in the sixteenth century. However, economic, social, political forces also played an important role in these conflicts. 2/10/

Edict of Nante For 30 years, battles raged in France between the catholic and Huguenots sides. To solve the religious problems, the king issued the Edict of Nantes in The edict recognized Catholicism as the official religion of France, but it also gave the Huguenots the rights to worship and to enjoy all political privileges, such as holding public offices. 2/10/201812

Economic and Social Crisis From 1560 to 1650, Europe witnessed severe economic and social crisis. One major economic problem was inflation, rising prices. The cause for inflation in Europe was that; first, the great influx of gold and silver from the Americas was one factor. Second, a growing population in the sixteenth century increased the demand for land and food and drove up prices for both. 2/10/201813
