MEDICINES DRUGS THAT ARE USED TO TREAT OR PREVENT DISEASE OR OTHER CONDITIONS.

DRUGS SUBSTANCES OTHER THAN FOOD THAT CHANGE THE STRUCTURE OR FUNCTION OF THE BODY OR MIND. **ALL MEDICINES ARE DRUGS, BUT NOT ALL DRUGS ARE MEDICINE.

SIDE EFFECTS A REACTION TO MEDICINE OTHER THAN THE ONE INTENDED. I.E. A MEDICINE FOR MIGRAINES THAT CAUSES YOU TO VOMIT.

ADDITIVE INTERACTION OCCURS WHEN MEDICINES WORK TOGETHER IN A POSITIVE WAY I.E. BOTH AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY & MUSCLE RELAXANT ARE PRESCRIBED TO TREAT JOINT PAIN.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE ANY UNNECESSARY OR IMPROPER USE OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES FOR NONMEDICAL PURPOSES. OVERUSE OR MULTIPLE USE OF A DRUG.

OVERDOSE A STRONG, SOMETIMES FATAL REACTION TO TAKING A LARGE AMOUNT OF A DRUG. IT CAN BE INTENTIONAL OR ACCIDENTAL.

ADDICTION A PHYSIOLOGICAL OR PSYCHOLOGICAL DEPENDENCE ON A DRUG.

PSYCHOLOGICAL DEPENDENCE A CONDITION IN WHICH A PERSON BELIEVES THAT A DRUG IS NEEDED IN ORDER TO FEEL GOOD OR TO FUNCTION NORMALLY.

PHYSIOLOGICAL DEPENDENCE A CONDITION IN WHICH A PERSON HAS A CHEMICAL NEED FOR A DRUG. THE PERSON WILL EXPERIENCE THE SEVERE EFFECTS OF WITHDRAWAL WHEN THEY STOP USING THE DRUG.

WITHDRAWAL WITHDRAWAL OCCURS WHEN A PERSON STOPS USING A DRUG ON WHICH THEY HAVE A CHEMICAL DEPENDENCE.

INHALANTS SUBSTANCES WHOSE FUMES ARE SNIFFED AND INHALED TO ACHIEVE A MIND-ALTERING EFFECT. HALLUCINATIONS, ETC.

PSYCHOACTIVE DRUGS CHEMICALS THAT AFFECT THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND ALTER ACTIVITY IN THE BRAIN AND CHANGE THE FUNCTIONING OF THE CNS.

NARCOTICS SPECIFIC DRUGS THAT ARE OBTAINABLE ONLY BY PRESCRIPTION AND ARE USED TO RELIEVE PAIN. MORPHINE CODEINE OXYCONTIN

HALLUCINOGENS DRUGS THAT ALTER MOODS, THOUGHTS, AND SENSE PERCEPTIONS INCLUDING VISION, HEARING, SMELL AND TOUCH. NOT FOR MEDICAL USES. LSD MUSHROOMS ECSTASY

MARIJUANA CONTAINS MORE CANCER CAUSING SUBSTANCES THAN TOBACCO SMOKE. ALL FORMS OF MARIJUANA ARE MIND ALTERING & CAN DAMAGE THE USER’S HEALTH. MALES- CAN AFFECT SPERM PRODUCTION, TESTOSTERONE LEVELS DROP. FEMALES- CAN CAUSE INFERTILITY, TESTOSTERONE LEVELS INCREASE.

OVER-THE-COUNTER OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUGS ARE ONE’S THAT DO NOT REQUIRE A DOCTOR’S PRESCRIPTION. HOWEVER, SOME DO HAVE RESTRICTIONS. I.E. COUGH SYRUP, SMOKING CESSATION, ETC.

ILLEGAL DRUGS USE CAN LEAD TO OVERDOSE. USE CAN LEAD TO CONTRACTING DISEASES. USE CAN AFFECT THE USER’S FAMILY.
