District Education & Leadership Conference DCON District Education & Leadership Conference

What is DCON? DCON is short for “District Education and Leadership Conference” Over 2,000 Florida Key Clubbers and Key Club Advisors Provides club leadership workshops, district officer elections, and opportunities for students Dcon stands for District Education and Leadership Conference (DCON) is held in the spring for over 2,000 students and chaperones. DCON provides for district officer elections, international candidates endorsement, club officer and member training, keynote and motivational speakers, individual and club awards for their dedication to service, zone caucuses, and social events. Every club should send at least two delegates to DCON.

Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel When and Where is DCON March 30-April 2, 2017 Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel Orlando, FL DCON occurs annually in the spring. The next DCON will be March 30 to April 2 in the spring of 2017. And DCON is located at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando.

Leadership training Club workshops Companionship with fellow Key Clubbers District Office elections Better Understanding of Key Club Contests and awards Dcon brings many opportunities for Key Clubbers to learn and meet fellow Key clubbers When you go to DCON, you learn about leadership skills and how to apply these skills in your home clubs There are many different workshops, from officer training, to membership growth; there is a workshop for you! DCON has many opportunities for Key Clubbers to meet others and create connections with clubbers from all over the state. During the convention, we have the House of Delegates, which is the process of electing new District officers *List quickly each officer position voted on if needed Through the course of the weekend, you get a better understanding of the organization and how it is connected with Kiwanis, Circle K, and other student leader programs. The convention also has an award ceremony, where clubs and officers are given awards for their achievements during the year. Contests such as the talent show are also during the award ceremony. All Key Clubbers should attend Who should attend? All Key Clubbers should attend All Key Clubbers are welcome and encouraged to attend. However, every club is expected to send at least two delegates to DCON.

House of Delegates Vote on District Officers Discuss amendments Vote on the proposed amendments * When discussing the bullet points, emphasize the importance of each, and importance of House of Delegates When you become a delegate, you are able to vote for a District Officer for the position of Governor, Secretary, and Treasurer You also vote on proposed Amendments, and are given the opportunity to discuss and argue an amendment during the meeting.

DCON Awards/Contests Club awards Individual Officer Awards Club Contests Talent Show Oratorical Contest Scholarships At DCON, there is an Award Ceremony where awards are given to distinguished clubs in the Florida District. There are also individual officer awards for president, treasurer, secretary, and other officers. Contests are a great way to participate during the conference; you can compete in best club t-shirt or the Key Club poster contest. The Talent show is open to everyone with any type of talent! While the Oratorical Contest is a fun speech contest, where speakers speak on a topic about Key Club. Graduating clubbers can also apply for scholarships, and are awarded them at DCON

Prices – Quad (4 to a room): $265 – Triple (3 to a room): $330 – Double (2 to a room): $360 – Single (1 to a room, students cannot register as a single): $565 Prices for DCON *Refer to the florida key club website for ideas on fundraising for DCON.

DCON Program Ads Why Advertise? Reduces registration cost of DCON Possibility of providing $1000 scholarships to seniors Advertising in the conference program pays for the cost of printing the program and Candidates Book which reduces the registration cost of the conference.  All advertising revenue in excess of printing costs provides college scholarships for Key Club seniors.  All Key Club seniors from clubs that sell the equivalent of one page of ads are eligible to apply for the Program Ad Scholarship ($1000)

DCON Program Ads Get your local business involved – let them know what DCON is and how this benefits them (promotion & helps seniors of the community with scholarships) Say thank you’s – perhaps your club can buy an ad or a group of parents can bet together to buy an ad (lower the cost)
