What is Title I? Title I is the largest federally funded program in the United States that strives to provide equal opportunity and educational help for all students to succeed in school. The name “Title I,” is short for “Part A of Title I of the Improving America’s Schools Act of 1994, Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965” and was reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Title I is now operating under the guidelines of ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) of 2015.

GOAL The goal of Title I is to ensure that ALL children have an opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach grade-level proficiency. Students can receive help in both reading and math.

Schoolwide Title I All 20 of Rowan-Salisbury’s Elementary Schools are Schoolwide Title I schools. This means that Title I money is blended with local money to benefit ALL the children at Landis Elementary School. There is absolutely NO connection between a student receiving Title I academic help and receiving free or reduced lunch.

How Title I money is used at Landis ... Reading Programs: Reading Mastery/Corrective Reading Orton-Gillingham and Capturing Kids’ Hearts training for ALL instructional staff Instructional Reading Design Coach: Mrs. Basinger Reading Specialist and four Title I Tutors Class-size reduction teacher Parent/Student Workshops Technology upgrades On-site Parent Resource Center
