1 Emma Elementary Home-School Compact A compact is a commitment indicating how all members of a school community-parents/guardians, teachers, principals and students-agree to share responsibility for student learning. This home/school compact lists some mutual responsibilities for attaining the school’s mission. * This compact has been created with staff and parent input. Parent/Guardian Agreement I understand that the activities listed below strengthen the home and school partnership. As a part of the family’s responsibility to support the child and the school community, I will: Support our school by sending our child to school regularly, on time, and prepared to learn. Support the school in its efforts to maintain proper discipline and a safe environment. Establish a time and place for my child to study and complete homework. Establish consistent bedtime routines. Read every day and limit TV, video games and Internet use. Communicate with teachers who instruct my child. Attend parent-teacher conferences and informational meetings as I am available. Recognize and praise my child’s efforts and progress Read and listen to my child regularly and make reading part of my child’s day. Sign my child’s reading log. Help my child fulfill the following agreement. Parent’s Signature _________________________________ Student Agreement It is important that I work to the best of my ability. As an Emma Elementary Student, I will: Come to school each day ready to learn, try my best and ask for help when needed. Follow the school rules, be a good example to others and be accountable for my actions. Practice reading and math skills at home every day Complete and return all homework assignments Work hard to follow the Cougar Promise each school day. Read 20-30 minutes at home each day. In an effort to provide the highest quality instructional program to the students at our school, and to show how the school and home are working together to educate the children at our school, we agree to: Provide an academic program that is rigorous and challenging for each individual child. Communicate with parents/guardians on a regular basis regarding the child’s academic progress. Regularly provide homework assignments that will reinforce classroom instruction. Provide supplementary learning materials for the student to use at home. Provide resources to support parents in working with their child at home. Collaborate with other staff to target student needs. Provide opportunities for Conferences with the family. Create a safe learning environment that allows for positive communication between the home and school. We strive to provide programs and materials which allow our parents to feel comfortable and welcome in our school. We believe that we must assist parents in seeing the importance of being involved in their child’s education. Title 1 provides an open-door policy for all parents. Questions and concerns regarding the literacy education of every child can be directed to the Title 1 teacher. Our goal is to involve not only the school staff in these endeavors, but the students, parents and community as a whole.
