The Physical Feature Below is named the Great Plains (shaded gold) The Physical Feature Below is named the Great Plains (shaded gold). Some of this area was part of the Louisiana Purchase where Lewis and Clarke saw expansive (huge areas) of grasslands. Expansive Grasslands

The Louisiana Purchase (yellow) that Thomas Jefferson Bought from the French. After the purchase, the size of the U.S. doubled Missouri River Mississippi River The Louisiana Purchase includes New Orleans and is bordered by the Mississippi River New Orleans, Louisiana

Lewis and Clark followed the Missouri River as a Transportation Route

Lewis and Clark’s Expedition “Mapped” the West and increased America’s knowledge back to people in the East about the lifestyles of Native Americans on the western lands.

Beginning with the Lewis and Clark Expedition, America became very Interested in the Western part of the U.S. through documentation including: drawing maps, plants, animals, rivers, distances, landmarks, and great paintings

Additionally, the outcome of the War of 1812 was the writing of The Star-Spangled Banner On September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key traveled on a truce ship to meet the British Fleet. The British agreed to release Dr. Bean. So as not to warn the Americans of the British attack, the truce ship was forced to remain with the British fleet until the battle was over. Key’s truce ship was 8 miles from Fort McHenry. For 25 hours, the passengers on the truce ship watched the British bomb Fort McHenry. The attack ended at 7:30 a.m. on September 14th.

Frances Scott Key wrote the lyrics to the poem, the Star-Spangled Banner, during the War of 1812. Key was excited the American Flag was still flying the next morning after a battle during the night between the British Military and Americans while he was held off U.S. shore as a prisoner on a British Ship

One of the Reasons The War of 1812 began was of disputes between the United States and Great Britain over the issue of sailing the Atlantic Ocean freely. American Sailors often were impressed or kidnapped and forced to join the British Navy.

After the U.S. Defeated Great Britain in the War of 1812, the United States Gained Respect of Nations Worldwide because Great Britain Had the Most Powerful Navy in the World
