Safety

EYES Eyesight that has been damaged or destroyed cannot be REPLACED More than one million people suffer eye injuries each year in the United States This Could Be You

Dress Wear sturdy leather shoes while at work No shorts or skirts Wear clothes that are suitable for work Avoid wearing loose fitting sweaters or clothing Wear sturdy leather shoes while at work Tie long hair back No shorts or skirts REMOVE LOOSE JEWELRY

Basic Safety Report every injury to your instructor immediately Keep your work area clean and orderly Report every injury to your instructor immediately Horseplay is forbidden When lifting an object, lift with your legs and not with your back Safety Video

Drill Safety Always remove the key from the chuck before turning on the drill press Remove neckties and tuck in loose clothing Clean chips from the work with a brush

Mill Safety Stop the machine before attempting to make adjustments or measurements Never reach over or near a rotating cutter! Be sure all power to the machine is turned off before opening or removing guards and covers.

Lathe Safety When removing the chuck, drive plate, or faceplate do not use machine power Always make sure that the tool bit is sharp and has the proper clearance

Welding Safety Inspect all welding equipment prior to each use. Look for possible damage or improper setup. Do not weld on painted, galvanized or greasy, oily metals.

Hand Tools They include axes, wrenches, hammers, chisels, screw drivers, and other hand-operated mechanisms Do not use a screwdriver as a chisel Never carry a screwdriver or chisel in your pocket Replace loose, splintered, or cracked handles

Compressed Air Safety Air hoses should be kept free of grease and oil to reduce the possibility of deterioration Hoses should not be strung across floors Never use compressed air to clean clothing, hair or anything else in the shop.

Grinder Safety Use a locking pliers or clamp to hold small pieces Allow the grinder to reach full speed before feeding material into the grinding position Use a locking pliers or clamp to hold small pieces Replace wheels that are badly worn or cracked
