Reflexive Reflexive Verbs djeben

Los verbos reflexivos Mira estas fotos. ¿Qué significa un verbo reflexivo ? Escribe en inglés.

WHAT DO YOU THINK A REFLEXIVE VERB IS? It means when the subject and the object are the same! In these incidences, the subject is doing something to himself/herself.

How does a reflexive verb relate to a mirror? A reflexive verb relates to a mirror because you’re looking at the mirror and seeing yourself and it’s the same because with a reflexive verb you’re reflecting the action on you!

EXAMPLE! Who does the action? Who receives the action? YOU! YOU!

I WASH MYSELF Subject: Verb: Object: I WASH MYSELF

I BRUSH MY HAIR I Subject: Verb: Object: BRUSH (MY OWN) HAIR

EXAMPLE OF NON-REFLEXIVE ACTION! I WASH THE CAR I WASH THE CAR Subject: Verb: Object: WASH THE CAR

ACTIVITY There will be pictures on the next four slides and when I call on you, you must name the subject, the verb and object! There may be some that aren’t reflective actions so watch out!

The verb is conjugated regularly. What do you notice about reflexive verbs? The verb is conjugated regularly. There is a ‘se’ that goes with the verb.

HOW CAN I TELL A VERB IS REFLEXIVE? Meaning If there is a ‘se’ that is attached: For example, lavarse

HOW DO I CONJUGATE A REFLEXIVE VERB Look at the infinitive, lavarse… You notice the verb ‘lavar’ Three steps to conjugating a reflexive verb…

HOW DO I CONJUGATE A REFLEXIVE VERB Take off the ‘se’ lavarse  lavar Then, conjugate like you normally do lavo Add a pronoun, i.e., CHANGE the ‘se’ to…

CONJUGATIONS! ME NOS OS TE SE SE -lavamos -lavo -lavais -lavas -lavan

WHERE ARE REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS PLACED IN A SENTENCE? 1) If the verb is conjugated, then the pronoun will come before the verb. For example... Tú te lavas el pelo. 2) If the verb is an infinitive, then the pronoun will attach to the end of the verb. For example... Tú tienes que lavarte el pelo. 3) If the verb is in affirmative command form, then the pronoun will attach to the end of the command. (This is NOT new!) For example... Lávate el pelo!

NOTES! Possessive adjectives (mi, tu, su, nuestro, vuestro, su) are not used to show ownership when using reflexive verbs. The reflexive verb implies ownership already.
