Broad Run High School Physical Education Grading Rubric

Level of Competency You will be evaluated every class period in physical education by using the following scale: Proficient ( 4 points) meets standard Satisfactory (3 points) slightly below standard Needs improvement (2 points) needs assistance and reminding by teacher on a regular bases. Does not demonstrate(1 point) = 20 points a class period

Motor Skill Development 9.1-10.1 I will perform all basic movement skills and motor principles in exercise and activities. (9th) I will demonstrate and apply concepts and principles of exercise, motor principles and anatomy in exercise and activities. (10th) What does this mean? Can you demonstrate the skills in that game/sport/activity during class to the best of your ability? Cognitive Knowledge: Do you know how to play the game? What are the rules? What are the basic strategies?

Anatomical Basis of Movement 9.2 10.2 I will be able to explain structures and functions of the body and how they relate to and are affected by human movement. (9th) I will apply the knowledge of motor movement (biomechanics) and anatomy and analyze and evaluate the ability to move efficiently in activities. (10th) What does this mean? How Overload, Specificity, and Progression aid in improving movement. How the muscle action directs the movement. How the response to SOP relates to FITT.

Fitness Planning 9.3 10.3 I will design, implement , self-assess and modify a personal fitness plan. Social Development 9.4 10.4 I will demonstrate the skills needed to be safe, responsible, and respectful in all physical activity setting. (9TH) I will demonstrate appropriate behaviors in all PE activities and the social skills needed to be a contributing member of society. (10th) What does this mean? Are you responsible for your behavior? **Respectful, ready for class, using equipment appropriately, playing hard but in control. Are you a good teammate? **Encouraging others, playing fair, showing good sportsmanship

Energy Balance 9.5 10.5 I will explain the importance of caloric intake and caloric expenditure to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease. (9th) I will explain the importance of caloric intake and caloric expenditure to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent disease for the present and into the future. (10th) What does this mean? How can activity impact what calories you put out in exercise, in relation to how many calories you take in.
