The Battle Against AIDS Review & Extension

Students: 1st-year English majors Time: 45 minutes Course: English Intensive Reading Students: 1st-year English majors Time: 45 minutes Purpose: to deepen the students’ understanding of the text through review and extension Background: The students have finished learning the text.

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Activities Objective Time Vocabulary Review 1. Students’ group work: “My favorite new words” (Choose – Explain why – Make sentences) 2. Vocabulary test: Blank filling To get students motivated to practice using the newly learnt words & expressions. 15 mins

Step 2 Activities Objectives Time Summary 1. Students’ pair work: to summarize the major points of the text part by part. 2. Class discussion: to report the summaries in three parts 3. Teacher: to give feedback on students’ reports. To learn to summarize the main idea of the text. To review the content for the mental preparation for the following oral activity. 10 mins
