3 PART 1 : Analysis of the teaching material STATUS AND FUNCTION 1. Unit 18 is a revision unit. It is intended for students to revise the knowledge learned before and be prepared for the following lessons. Lesson 71 is the third one in Unit 18. It is a passage about a job interview. It is related to our daily life. 2. This lesson is very helpful for the Ss to improve their overall English abilities. TEACHING AIMS AND DEMANDS 1.Knowledge objects 2.Ability objects 3.Moral objects

4 Knowledge objects 1. To help the students to learn and master the following words and expressions: extremely, determine, stupid, permit,brake,rude, rush hour,etc. 2. To give a reinforced practice in the use of the attributive clause and some other grammar points learned in the previous units.

5 Ability objects Moral objects 1. Develop the students’ virtues of considerate and courage through the teaching first paragraph. 2. Develop the students’ virtues of wisdom and honesty through the teaching of the last three paragraphs. 1. Improve the students' four skills in learning English. 2. 9 PART 4: Teaching procedure Step 1 Lead-in Suppose you are looking for a job, and you are told that you are going to have an interview. List what you would do as preparations. Get the students to compare notes find out what are the most important factors in getting a job. Task 2: Comparison Task 1: Listing

10 Step 2 Listening comprehension Task 1 Note making List what happened on the writer’s way to the interview while listening to the first paragraph twice. Task 2 Retell the story Get students to retell the main idea of the accident with the help of the pictures.

12 Step 3 Discussion 1.What will you do if you see an accident happen around you? 2. Continue the story after the road accident.

13 Step 4 Reading What happened to the writer in the end? Was he late for the interview? What happened during the interview? Did he get the job in the end? 1. Let students read the text quickly and find out:
