2-Minute Square Dance Speaking Extension Activity

You can incorporate this activity as an introductory exercise to stimulate learner confidence and socializing. It is particularly useful for new groups of students to take part in.

Just Speak Up B1+ - B2 You can incorporate this activity in the form of an interview. Students won’t need to talk at length but should feel comfortable and confident to take on questions regarding their chosen topics. This activity can also be used in pair work as a timed exercise. Additionally this activity can be used as a supplemental activity in accordance with your syllabus.

Talk a Lot B1 – B2 Involve the Speaking Success! element to teach students everyday spoken English to improve understanding and fluency. This activity can act as a tool for engaging in conversation in a more casual and frequent context. Vocabulary sections can be designed to set speaking rules for students to use certain target vocabulary when answering their ideas on a topic. An interview/survey exercise can also work well with this activity which helps introducing speaking more prominently, and to encourage students to speak to other members of the class. Alternatively, students can partner-up in order to help improve your student’s speaking and confidence levels.

Speaking Time Pre A1 – A1+ Practice section can be divided into the selected topics. Each practice section allows for the practice of a key sentence in the Modeled Speech section. The Modeled Speech section can be designed to fit in with generic answers for the topic-based questions. Expressions to complete sentence patterns can be used when answering the topic questions. Alternatively for homework, this activity can be used as a supplementary extension activity where students re- interview a different person for the final Speaking Practice at home or in class.

Speaking Tutor A2 – B2 Level 1: Incorporate this exercise with interactive roleplays (short topic based exchanges). Level 2: Building oral summaries based on selected topics (summarizing presented information). Level 3: Use the listed topics for making presentations (formulating supported viewpoints). Additionally the activity can be used in the form of interview questions or dialogue practice.
